10/28/2012.....UPDATE!...Pretty much the same story as on 9/5/10...New log book, container, and instructions today.
09/05/2010. This box had been abused!! I had several reports ranging from "damp" to "waterlogged". Brand new box and now with a hand carved stamp! (It's ok to laugh at it, I just started carving!) The log book was completely ruined so if you stamped before or attempted before and are in the area again, please visit again. It is off the beaten path(I don't know why or how muggles found it...) so some stickery underbrush, probably some poison ivy, and of course mosquitoes! BUT! That's summertime in Michigan!
Sister Lakes is a summertime resort area and a beautiful country drive any time of year. Close to VanBuren, Berrien, and Cass County lines.
From South: Take Indian Lake Rd., M-51 North, or M-140 North to M-152 East to 95th St.
From North: I-94 to exit 56 (M-51). South, beyond Decatur, before Dowagiac, to M-152 (blinking light). West on M-152, follow signs to Wick's Apple House. UPDATE! Unfortunately, Wick's has gone out of business. So, travelling West on M-152, turn Left onto Bakeman Rd. It ends in a T at Topash St. Turn Right. At the intersection of Topash St. & Indian Lake Rd. turn left for lunch, wine, fresh produce & baked goods at Wick's. Turn right for letterboxing. Approximately 1 mile, hang a left. Turn right right away, onto Sister Lakes Rd. Follow that approximately 1&1/2 mile to 95th St. Round Lake and Driftwood Inn on left hand side on the corner of 95th. Turn right onto 95th St. about 1/2 mile, park entrance on the right. If you get to Lucy & Ethel's Laundromat you've gone too far! As you pull into the park, the main drive will curve left. Keep going forward onto the dirt trail. Soon you will find a large paved oval. This used to be the site of the famous Rendezvous Race Track. It attracted many of the Indianapolis 500 race drivers of the 1940's, including Tony Bettenhousen and Johnny Parson. Drive onto the track, follow it around to the far corner. Find a rocky hill. On foot now, over the hill, then keep right. Ignore the next right, continue forward, looking to the left for a post painted the color of circus peanuts. Once there, look into the woods about 15 tall man steps to see a tree that could be a giraffe. Behind it, at it's base you will find a tiger that ought to be a lion.... oh look! It IS a Lion!
UPDATE! 10/28/2012 - The color has faded on the post but you'll still get the idea. Also, the giraffe tree's neck has been broken! The new letterbaggy is in the split, about 5'6" high, covered with bark.
PLEASE be sure to re-seal all baggies well and re-cover with the bark! -Thanks
Also, when you leave the park, if you turn right, go past Lucy & Ethel's laundromat, a scenic drive will bring you back to M-152.
