Bedford 1829 School House
The small stone building on the green, often called the "Stone Jug," was the village school until 1912. From the 1913 to 1969 it housed the Bedford Museum. With the restoration of the Court House, the Museum was moved there, and the 1829 building was restored as a one-room school house and museum of the history of education in Bedford. Peek thru the window and it will bring you back in time. The letterbox is hidden on the corner of the property. Walk over to the well. The well sits extremely close to the road. Small children should stay in the car if you are boxing without another adult. On one side of the well, is a stone that sits up against it. You will need to stand on the stone to reach the box that sits on the "shelf" at the top. When you reach for it, reach towards the left side straight up thru the 2 stone pillars. The box sits on the left side towards the back, up against the left pillar.
The traffic will clear and back up every few minutes so please use STEALTH, when retrieving and replacing the box.
The Bedford Village Green retains the quaint charm of its New England origins.
