The Celtic Cross
This cross sits in Union Cemetery on Clinton Road In Bedford, NY
To find this letterbox, enter the main iron gate off of Clinton Road. Clinton road sits just off of Bedford Center Road, next to Rippowan Cisqua's upper school campus. Drive straight thru the cemetery to the back. On your right will be the cross. The cross is adorned with 4 animals. This is truly a beautiful piece. On your left is the Haines family plot. (of Haines Road).
Standing on the road in front of the cross continue to walk straight to the watering fountain. This is adorned with the saying: "Blessed are those pure in heart for they will see God". Directly behind this well is a large tree. At the base of the tree is a small hole that is covered with a stone that fits perfectly over the threshold. Please rehide well and cover hole with the stone. The superintendent 's house is in view so use stealth and stamp in another area. There are lots of areas to explore and sit. This cemetery holds many of the earliest residents of the Bedford/Mt. Kisco area. When my kids found this cemetery we were 'taken back" by the beauty of the crosses. I also found it strange to stubble upon the Haines plot, just after researching my own house/property's history.
Stanley Haines owned property in Mt. Kisco. Some of the parcels were connected to my house. They were once large land holdings of the Carpenter Family. His name is painted on the rafters/siding of my garage. The strangiest thing is I grew up in the Haines Road area of Bedford (corners). Letterboxing brings me to the coolest places. Beautiful and well maintained old cemetery.
