The Road Ogres present: Rogue Odor #2

***Update*** 10/30/10 The clues have been tweaked to reflect the changes the park has undergone in the three years since the box has been planted.

This letterbox can be found in Greeley Park on Manchester St in Nashua. To get there, head north on Concord St which will take you through the main part of Greeley Park. Take a left at the traffic light onto US Route 3. Take another left at the next set of lights onto Manchester St. The park is about half a mile on your left. It is easily discerned because of the weird yellow poles with tires & chains sticking out of the ground. You will have to park on the street, as the road that goes into the park is closed.

These directions will take you on an old athletic trail that winds its way through the park and has fallen into disrepair. I chose this location because the stamp pertains to the trail. You will need a compass for these clues. Anyway, start at the kiosk (or what used to be a kiosk) at the side of the street. Take a reading of 140 degrees and head in that direction toward a metal pole at the edge of the woods. Look in the trees; you will see two paths leading up the slope into the woods. Take either one.

At the top of the steps there is another metal pole. Take a compass reading of 70 degrees and head in that direction, stepping over a fallen log. You will reach yet another metal pole. Keep walking along the top of the slope. You will cross an old drainage ditch with two 10" tall wooden posts.

You will reach another metal pole. Ahead of you you should be able to see a wire fence. Go towards it and turn left along the path, keeping the fence on your right. The path will take you past six short posts lying embedded in the ground. If you don't see them, don't fret. Just follow the along the fence, even when it turns to the right.

You will pass a square of beams lying in the ground, another remnant of the old exercise trail. Stop once you reach a metal pole on your right and three wooden beams lying on your left. About 15 steps ahead is a trail to the left. About 40 steps on the left there is a double-trunk tree. Look a little further in a sea of pines. There is a double-trunk tree that isn't a double anymore. It is here that you will find the second Rogue Odor. Please be discreet and re-hide carefully. To get back, just head along the path to a paved road that will take you back to where you parked.

This portion of Greeley Park is great for sledding in wintertime. And on Saturdays you may be able to catch a swordfight or two. Enjoy!
