Level of Difficulty: Easy. The route can be anywhere from a ½ mile to 6 miles with a 500 feet elevation gain to access this letterbox depending on the route you choose.

Keep your eye out for different types of RAPTORS along the way, as there were several when I was here.

Beware of the attacking tumbleweed. The day I went it was very windy so the trails were covered with prickly tumbleweed. There are also signs all over warning you of rattlesnakes, scorpion and tics. Please use gloves or a stick to reach for this letterbox. Stay on the trails to keep you safe.

Directions: Travelling from Twin Falls on I84, take exit 155 and follow the signs to Hagerman (about 8 miles). When you reach a “T” intersection turn left onto State Highway 30.

Travelling from Boise on I84, take exit 137/141 to Hagerman and head south on State Highway 30. You will drive through the town of Hagerman and then start looking for the following signs.

From State Highway 30 turn right/head west (just before the rest area on your left) onto 1000E at the sign for Upper Salmon Falls Power Plant and a Sportsman Access sign (the Sportsman Access sign after Bell Springs Sportsman Access Sign). Cross a one-lane bridge and then turn right at the stop sign. Several miles up the road you will enter the Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument. For the 6 mile hike park at the Snake River Overlook and for ½ mile hike park at the Oregon Trail Overlook. If you hike the Emigrant Trail from the Snake River Overlook, the trail starts across the street from the parking lot. Ensure you grab one of “Experiencing the Oregon Trail” brochures in the Register box at the trailhead, so you can follow along as you hike.

Clues: From the Oregon Trail Overlook parking lot information sign proceed on the trail at 30 degrees. Keep to the left and you will come to an amazing overlook at the Hagerman Landscape. Return to the junction and steer left again. As you learn about the previous volcanoes along the Snake River travel 8 more paces at 200 degrees. The flat white rock conceals the Hagerman Horse under its western most side. Replace the two smaller rocks once you are finished. Thanks for stamping in.
