Nolan Ryan, a native Texan, was the most dominating strikeout pitcher ever in Major League Baseball. He compiled 53 MLB records during a career that lasted 27 seasons and threw 5,714 strikeouts, 7 no-hitters and won 324 games. He started with the New York Mets and played with the "Amazings" of 1969, earning a save in the World Series and acquiring the nickname "Ryan Express" by the New York media. After an eight-year stint with the California Angels he came back home to Texas and played for the Houston Astros and finally with the Texas Rangers. Though he is now retired, he stays busy ranching in his hometown of Alvin. You can relive all his greatest baseball moments at the Nolan Ryan Center, located on the Alvin Community College campus, where this box is located.
Directions:
Alvin is located about 25 miles south of downtown Houston off Hwy 35. In Alvin, continue on Hwy 35 south of Hwy 6 for about 2 miles. Turn left (east) on Tx 1462 toward the Alvin Community College. The Nolan Ryan Center will be on your right after just .1 miles.
Clues:
From the front of the Center, walk northeast about 25 yards to the ponds with fountains. Cross the bridge and continue walking northeast about 50 yards toward the flagpole across Childress road. From the flagpole, walk northwest at 295 degrees for 22 steps to just left of a pine tree. Continue 9 more steps to a tree with Pampas plants on its left and right sides. Look for the box about 3 feet to the right of the tree under the Pampas branches with a rock on top of it. Please re-cover well.
