****6/22/2010 - VANDALIZED!!! Sorry - we found that this box was destroyed by party poopers. We will try to replace the next time we are in town. Check back soon for the update ***

BACKGROUND: Walton is a quaint village nestled in a valley of the Catskill mountains. It's about a half hour from Oneonta, and just getting there provides the traveler with lovely views of the mountains and the countryside. In the fall, the scenery is unbeatable. Many downstate folks make Walton a vacation destination, often purchasing summer homes there. Several celebrities have also made Walton a regular stop on their agendas, including Pam Dawber (Mork and Mindy)and Rik Smits (formerly of the Indiana Pacers). As a matter of fact, a pair of Rik's gigantic sneakers can be seen on display in one of the local eateries! Walton is also host to the Delaware County Fair as well as an annual car show that draws visitors from far and wide.

TRAVEL: One way to get there is to take I-88 to Oneonta. From there, proceed to Franklin and then to Walton.

DIRECTIONS TO THE LB: The main thoroughfare in Walton is Delaware Street. From Delaware, take Liberty Street all the way to the end. Take a left onto East Street and look for the entrance to Austin-Licoln Park on the right. Proceed down the long entrance road. At the end, take a right. Drive past the pavillion and park in the lot to the right. You will see a small playground. There, find an old tractor tire and stand in the middle of it, facing the pavillion. If you are not so lucky as to live in or near the mountains, look to your left and you may be impressed that you are standing close to one! If you look to your right you will see, in the distance, a 5-trunked tree. Go to the tree and look for 2 posts that could serve to designate the beginning of a trail. Standing between the posts, you will see the trail ahead of you, bearing slightly to the right. About 55 steps into the trail, find a bifurcated white birch tree with one trunk half broken off and one still standing. This will be on your left. Behind this, under a brick and some rocks, you will find the Cat in Catskills!

NOTE: ***There is no inkpad with this LB!***

Please drop us a line when you find it! Happy Hunting!
