The Portland Aerial Tram connects the South Waterfront district to OHSU’s main campus on Marquam Hill. This unique method of public transportation is visible throughout the city and will no doubt become a Portland landmark despite the heavy controversy surrounding its construction.
You can read more about the Portland Aerial Tram at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portland_Aerial_Tram

Note: Although it is recommended that you take the tram to get this letterbox, it is not necessary. Fellow letterboxers wishing to save the $4 round trip fee can simply drive directly up to Marquam Hill and begin your journey there.

To the letterbox:

Board the tram at the OHSU Center for Health and Healing at South Waterfront. Enjoy the view as you rise 500 feet during this three to four minute journey to the main OHSU campus.
After departing the tram, enter Kohler Pavilion and take the first right down a hall (right before the tram information center.)
Walk down the hall past two benches.
Take the first door on your right (across from Rick Bartow’s Amaryllis) and go out onto the 9th floor terrace.
Turn left and take the staircase down.
Turn left again and down a second set of stairs to a crosswalk.
Travel across the street and veer left around the statue of the shriner and young girl.
Look for a staircase to the right of the Physicians Pavilion garage.
At the top of these stairs look for red 17. The Portland Aerial Tram letterbox is located at the base (right side) of the tree growing behind red 17.
