Papa Bear makes his den in the Kitchel - Lindquist Dunes Preserve.
Found near the City of Ferrysburg, MI. between the Grand River, and Lake Michigan.
The parking area is on Berwyck St., off North Shore Drive. A beautiful area of dunes and woodland.
From the parking area / Trail Head, proceed at 324 degrees.
Pass "1" then "2", continue on to a open sandy area where
The trails come together, take the one at 060 degrees.
Pass by "3" on your right and "4" on your left.
At "5" your headed 060 degrees, then to the intersection with a wrinlkly fella on the right, take trail left down to "6".
When you meet "Herold" turn more towards the rising sun, find "7" on the left.
Take a "Walk On The Boards" to the resting place. Stop here a moment, catch your breath, and listen for the trees, and wildlife.
After a bit, up you go, now head on down the trail, past the four wrinkly ones.
At the intersection, bear left, and make the climb up the hill trail.
Find four scraggly pines to the right, take their lead, and follow the trail towards the sunrise. On the right, a HUGE nest.. Hmmm, wonder what built that? Keep the children close just in case...
Look around for the "Stars and the Stripes". Go ahead and walk on up to the brow, and enjoy the splendid view. Ohh, look down there below, "The Musical Fountain"...
Grrrrrrr... Now you are close to my den, and I am watching you from a distance... come closer?? follow my path to the left at 070, along the ridge... Watch out for the foot prints of my friends who live here too. The Deer, Fox, and Turkey....
Straight ahead, see the twisted one, and his broken brother? stand at the brother's root end, and look straight ahead at 000 degrees, through the trees.. See the stump? They burned my favorite tree down with fireworks, and then finished the job with an axe!!
Well, anyways, take a rest on the stump... My den is closeby at the root end of the fallen tree here by the stump.
Be sure to hide me well when you are finished back in my den.
Thanks for stopping by....
For the return trip back to the trail head, you can do the reverse of the route you came in on, or walk back to the "Stars and Stripes", and then take the trail down to the Musical Fountain, walk around the front of it and then on down the driveway which you can follow all the way out through the marina and then to your vehicle.
Enjoy!
