Silver Lake is located in Brighton, Utah at the top of Big Cottonwood Canyon. Brighton is a well-known local ski resort in the beautiful, rugged Wasatch Mountains. Because this is a watershed area, no dogs are allowed in the canyon. This is a fun and easy interpretive walk around a wheelchair accessible wetland boardwalk. We saw friendly chipmunks, ducks, stellar jays, and squirrels. Take a picnic lunch, or stop at our favorite, The Silver Fork Lodge a short drive back down the canyon.
Instructions:
Big Cottonwood Canyon Road starts at about 7200 south and Wasatch Blvd. Go all the way up the canyon to Brighton. Silver Lake is easy to find. Start at the “Welcome to Silver Lake” sign at the entrance and follow the boardwalk clockwise. The loop is about 1 mile. From where the boardwalk ends and the dirt path begins, take four steps and face south. Walk through the trees about 55 steps to an embankment piled with large, angular rocks. Six steps up the embankment there is a pile of smaller rocks and vertical sticks. The letterbox is wedged underneath the rocks. Please be discreet and cover it completely before you leave. . There is very deep snow here during the winter months.
