Marine Drive Trail
Bellingham, WA.
From I-5 in Bellingham, take exit 256 to Meridian street. Turn south, right on Broadway, then right on Eldridge. Continue on Eldridge, which becomes Marine Drive, and go aproximately 1 mile. Look for a small park and parking lot on the left. A small sign marks the park so be alert for the turn. The park overlooks Bellingham Bay & even on a cloudy day the views of the bay and islands are incredible. Enjoy this route along one of the oldest settled areas of Bellingham. Fort Bellingham was located out here (long gone) and some of the cities oldest homes are along this part of town.

Box # 1- Along on a breeze: From the parking lot, take the trail left to "River Meets The Sea".Enjoy the view. On a windy day you might see kite surfers on the bay below. Then go left thru a wide opening between blackberry vines and brush on the right, and bushy trees on the left. Very soon you'll see an old forgotten fruit tree amongst bushes with a gnarly old log lying in the front. There is a home just off the park property on the right, but you should be able to quietly find what you seek under the log.

Box# 2- The Big One: Head back to "River Meets The Sea", and take the trail right. Follow it along passing the green trail posts and then crossing the road. Keep going along and soon you will come to a clearing before the trail heads into woods again. Stop at the group of trees on the right side of the trail before entering the clearing. Turn around facing back the way you came. Count 32 steps to a huge clump of many decidious trees on the left. You'll need lots of room for this one!
