One of San Jose's lovely green areas has an entrance at McAbee Road and Whispering Pines Drive. Take Camden Avenue south from the Almaden Expressway. Turn left (south) onto McAbee Road and go about 8 blocks. Park along the road, being careful not to block anyone's driveway.

The Turtle Trek letterbox can be found in either of two ways. If you are searching for Mercurial Messenger, it will be found along the return route. From that letterbox, continue up the Mine Hill Trail to the first bench you passed on the way up to the Guadalupe Trail. This time choose the New Almaden Trail.

Follow it across a footbridge then another. After the second footbridge, notice the small field of volcanic rocks to your left. Take 8-10 steps left off the trail towards the tallest rock. Look behind it under moveable rocks for Turtle Trek. Continue on the New Almaden Trail a short distance to a T intersection. Turn right at the T to return to the park entrance.

Turtle Trek can also be found after a very short walk. From the park entrance walk straight ahead to the junction of the New Almaden and Senador Mine Trails. Turn left onto the New Almaden Trail. You will soon approach a footbridge. Do not cross it. Go right off the trail 8-10 steps towards the tallest rock. Look behind it under moveable rocks for Turtle Trek.
