This box was originally planted as part of the Northern NY gathering in Canton NY. It is now in its permanent location. It contains a stamp, logbook, and yellow ink pad. There may be a geocache in this area so please be aware of others looking for a different “box”.

UPDATE 1/1/20111: A NEW LOGBOOK IS NEEDED. I WON'T GET TO IT FOR A FEW MONTHS AFTER THE SNOW FADES. IF ANYONE CAN DROP IN A FEW SHEETS OF PAPER HERE AND THERE, I THANK YOU!

Driving Directions:

On Route 3, between Sevey’s Corners and Tupper Lake, in the Town of Piercefield is a memorial to WWII veterans. It is very often overlooked but is a wonderful rest stop in which to stretch your legs, enjoy the view of the Raquette River, and remember our veterans. This memorial is located off of Route 3 near a bridge over the Raquette River. It is kitty corner to a large sign proclaiming the “Town of Piercefield”. Several roads branch off at this section of RT. 3. You’re looking for Pump House Rd. If coming from Tupper Lake, cross the bridge and take a left onto Pump House Road. If coming from Sevey’s, take a right just after the “Town of Piercefield” sign. The road will lead back to a green building. (The pump house, maybe?)

CLUES:

Pull into the small parking area near the green building. There is a wooden platform deck that looks out toward the roadway and bridge. But if you go toward the grassy hill, you’ll find the memorial, picnic tables, and Adirondack style benches overlooking the water. As you approach this area from the parking lot, there is a wooden fence along your right side. Just outside this fence is a large group of trees on the hillside. They are NOT birch. The box is hidden at the base of this group near the tall stump. It is concealed by a large lump of old concrete with lots of stones in it. Please be sure to keep the concrete lump in place as a way to conceal the box from curious eyes!

Please reseal and replace this box with care.
