South Skaneateles #1 – High Vista
High Vista Preserve Finger Lakes Land Trust
Directions:
From Skaneateles: Rt 41 South 15.1 miles
From Homer: Rt 41 North 9.5 miles (Pass the scenic overlook)
From Route 41 at the Cortland / Onondaga County Line - Drive down Vincent Hill Road (while enjoying the spectacular view of Skaneateles Lake) Drive 1/3 mile to where the road starts bending to the left. You will see a small parking area on your right. Park here and continue walking down the road to the High Vista Nature Preserve Sign (on your left).
Clue:
Walk to the High Vista Welcome Box. Cross the wooden footbridge on your left. After the bridge, start counting the blue painted trees (Count only the ones heading in your direction!) Stop 1 step after you pass the 5th blue tree. Look far across to your left. Just inside the tree line, in front of the brambles, you will see a 3’ V-shaped stump of a 3 trunked tree. Walk 28 paces to the stump to find your deer.
Continue on the trail following the blue markings. The trail will loop around the stream, and return you to where you are. Total trail length: 1.1 miles.
Don't look for this box during hunting season!
