Take US 31 to the Charlevoix City Golf Course. Turn west on Mercer Blvd. (opposite the Sleep Inn) Continue for about 1/2 mile to the first crossroad, Waller Rd. Turn left on Waller and follow it to its end. At this intersection, turn right. Follow McSauba Rd. to the local ski hill. Turn left at the stop sign on to Pleasant. Follow the sharp curve (street becomes McSauba again). Continue for about 1/2 mile until you reach a parking area at the end of the street. Look to the left of the parking area and walk down the trail between the boulders (not into the woods). When the trail forks, take the trail to the right leading you out towards Lake Michigan. Immediately after the path can't make it's mind up about which way to go around the shrubs, turn right heading north towards the lake. This path will lead you to a narrow, tapering peninsula. Enjoy the crunch of stones beneath your feet but don't forget to look up as a bald eagle has been seen nearby. This is great caterpillar territory with lots of milk weed in the summer if you like to raise monarchs. Continue on the peninsula until you reach a large pile of rocks. This is a BIG rock mound. At the end of the pile, farthest out toward the lake, you will see two dark stones and a maroon stone. Our letterbox is hidden here.
