This letterbox is in honor of the large Sturtevant family who settled this area after the American Revolution. Hosea Sturtevant enlisted to fight in the American Revolution while living in Halifax, Massachusetts with his family. He fought in several battles and was taken prisoner and held on the prison ship "Jersey" where he suffered from Small Pox. After the war, at age 17, Hosea with a friend came to Center Harbor, walking mostly through forests. Later Hosea's parents and siblings followed to help settle the land. The Sturtevant's had large families of 12 and 15 children. They were an important part of this community.

Make your way to Center Harbor, NH, from Route 25 turn onto Bean Road toward Sandwich, NH. Drive about one mile. Bean Cemetery will be on your right. Pass through the second opening in the fence. Notice the white obelisk where Hosea and many of his family are resting. See the many Sturtevant gravestones.

Clue:

Walk to the back of the cemetery. Look for the lonely gravestone of little Priscilla. Standing in front of her stone, look to the right for a large pine tree. Step carefully over the wall. Watch out for poison ivy. You are a few steps from what you seek.

Bring your own pen and ink pad.
