R.E. Lee McDaniel Park is located in Springfield at the corner of S. National & E. Sunset, with the entrance being on National. There is a playground at the NORTH end and a paved trail beginning at the SOUTH end.

As you begin the trail you will see woods on the NORTH side and a stream on the SOUTH. About halfway down the wooded stretch is a trail directly NORTH into the woods. At the first and second fork, either trail may be taken. At the third fork stay on the NORTH trail. At the fourth fork go WEST, take 10 paces, and you will see a forked tree on the right. Carefully remove letterbox from the hollow hole in the tree.

Alternate directions in case of flooded areas. As you begin the paved trail but before you reach the woods, you will see a bench in the clearing. Look for the trail NORTHEAST of the bench. At the first fork, stay on the main trail, go left at the second fork, and right at the third fork (over the log). At the fourth fork go left, and then right at the fifth fork. Finally, at the sixth fork go WEST, take 10 paces, and you will see a forked tree on the right. Carefully remove letterbox from the hollow hole in the tree. It was uninhabited at the time we placed it but you never know!

We hope you enjoyed your short hike in the woods.
