Double Seven (Perfect Stamp)
First Box in the Nolde Forest Series
LOCATION: Nolde Forest Environmental Education Center, located on
PA Route 625 south of Reading, Berks County, PA.

DATE PLANTED: October 2002

Nolde Forest Environmental Education Center is designed and maintained to promote environmental education. Bicycles and motorized vehicles are not allowed. Please hike only on designated trails. All route choices use existing Fire Roads, Trails, or Paths (FR/T/P). All boxes in this series are located close to trailsides. All routes involve elevation changes. Maps of the center are not entirely accurate.

START HERE: Sawmill Parking Area just off PA 625.

Double set of clues to this box. One route choice is a little longer but more leisurely. The other is shorter, but steeper.

1. Longer, Leisurely

Stand facing 270 degrees with the Double Wooden Bridges near the parking lot at your back. Of the four main directions of the compass, one is the most appropriate heading (MAH) for this box. Follow the Fire Road/Trail/Path (FR/T/P) at this heading. Ignore (FR/T/P)'s coming into it on the right and left, cross a wooden bridge, and turn right until you reach a Y near the Double benches. Bear right, noting the name of the (FR/T/P) you are now on. Continue on this (FR/T/P) until you reach a place where it Doubles itself near the Double cans and the Double "cans". Continue at MAH on the (FR/T/P) that Doubled
itself until you reach a Y. Go left at the Y, leaving this (FR/T/P), then immediately right. Continue on this new (FR/T/P), passing the four DOUBLE red slashes, and find this spot(S): FF and EE and LL/PP and EE. Near this find OO (Double letters) followed by a number. Note this number (N) and return to S. Now follow the (FR/T/P) at a heading which is ninety degrees less than (MAH) for N divided by three paces until you see the Double Horses at 215 degrees and the Tall Pine at 120 degrees. Look between the Double Logs in the area between the Double Horses and (FR/T/P) to find Double Seven.

2. Shorter, Steeper

Stand facing 270 degrees with the Double Wooden Bridges near the parking lot at your back. Of the four main directions of the compass, one is the most appropriate heading (MAH) for this box. Add 90 degrees to MAH and follow the Fire Road/Trail/Path (FR/T/P) in that direction until it meets another. At this junction, follow the (FR/T/P) at MAH until it meets another (FR/T/P). Turn left and continue, ignoring three (FR/T/P) coming in on your left, and ignoring one (FR/T/P) coming in on your right. Pass the Buckeye PP on your left; ignore the (FR/T/P) coming in on your right, and catch sight of Double Yellow to your right. Continue and find this spot(S): FF and EE and LL/PP and EE.

Double EIGHT (Ditto?)
Second Box in the Nolde Forest Series

LOCATION: Nolde Forest Environmental Education Center, located on PA Route 625 south of Reading, Berks County, PA.

START HERE: From the location of Double Seven, continue on the (FR/T/P) in the direction that you were heading until you meet another (FR/T/P). Turn right, and continue until you see the Double Arrows. (EE 25 means you have gone too far - Double Back!) From the Double Arrows, follow MAH plus 90 degrees, ignoring the (FR/T/P) coming in on the left until the FR/T/P meets others. Take a sharp right, ignore the (FR/T/P)'s coming in on the left and pass the gray stone structure on the left. Continue until this (FR/T/P) meets
another. Turn right, pass a (FR/T/P) coming in on the right, and continue to a triangle with trees in the middle at the top of the "steps". Go right at the triangle, then take the first left and continue until you find this point(P): SS/ FF and EE and LL. Near this point find the Double Numbers 00 and 44. Note the two digit number following 00 and the two digit number following 44; subtract the smaller from the larger, divide by 2 to get a number(#) of
paces. Return to P, Double Back at heading 340 degrees for # paces to where 00 and 44 are at 200 degrees and a rock is at 160 degrees. Look at heading 270 degrees, between Double Logs, to find Double Eight.

Double NINE (Eye No Your Wandering)
Third Box in the Nolde Forest Series

LOCATION: Nolde Forest Environmental Education Center, located on PA Route 625 south of Reading, Berks County, PA.

START HERE: From the location of Double Eight, return to the point (P). In this area locate a wooden structure and a water source. Stand facing the water source so that the wooden structure is directly behind it. Head right, following this named (FR/T/P) through the rows of Double Pines to a water source on the right. Locate and note the Heading of the Double Outlets (HDO) at the base. Continue on the same named (FR/T/P) until it meets another. Zig right, zag left, and continue on the same named (FR/T/P) passing the Laurel PP on your left, until you reach some macadam. Follow a heading of 40 degrees to a stone structure. Find a sign of --TT-- --SS --FF-TT and then find --TT-- --SS --FF-TT above a clock. Note the number of the hour hand (NHH) on the clock. Stand with the clock at your back and note the heading(CH). Go from nearby brass to nearby shiny silver, then 205 degrees to an area where -cC-NN-LL --LL is at 300 degrees, shiny silver is at 40 degrees, and a light post is at 280 degrees. Follow heading 160 degrees to a (FR/T/P) entrance on the right located before EE 15 and across from a water source. Follow this
(FR/T/P), ignoring both the first (FR/T/P) coming in on the right and the next coming in on the left until you reach a Y. Go left until this (FR/T/P) crosses another at an X. Go left, almost DOUBLING Back, and continue to Netless (Nt) standing on the left. From (Nt), follow heading CH for (six times NHH) paces, then follow heading HDO for (three times NHH) paces to Double Nine.
