Whispering Woods

BOX HAS BEEN REMOVED - Hollow log was damaged so the box will be moved to a new location with updated clues soon.

Whispering Woods Park is located on 21-mile road, just east of Van Dyke Avenue and west of the M-53 overpass.

Our story begins at the northwestern corner of “the black sea,” where the sea meets the land. The five Woods brothers, Chase, Grove, Forest, Briar, and Fen, lived on the edge of the sea in a small house.
One day, their country’s freedom was threatened and the five were called to the line of duty. They set off on the path, which “lead to the setting sun”. The brothers marched one after the other down the trail, admiring “the diamonds, which lined their path on both sides”(The diamonds have been temporarly removed from the right side of the path so there is only a "diamond" on the left). When the road split they found themselves faced with a decision. If they continued to head west the path would continue, but the brothers knew that the path they must take would be “dark and hard.” So they traveled south to victory.
The brothers pushed onward, at the bend in the path stood a “mother, leaning from the battlefield, shielding her many children”. The brothers gave her a curt nod and commenced eastward to the combat zone. Before the battle, the five rested on a “lone bench” and watched as soldiers ducked, and dodged ahead of them. They knew they had to “move directly south to continue” their journey.
Suddenly a bomb shook the ground beneath them, and they all watched as the “trail ahead split open.” The gaping wound in the Earth seemed to direct them in the right direction. So they fought through the war zone, and walked east, “passing their goal.”
The five followed the path as it wound near the battleground and soon found themselves near a safe house, where the wounded were treated, and the dead buried beneath “mounds of sand.” The primitive shelter “hung over them like an arch”, but they soon passed on their way.
“The path soon led to a large opening in the dense woods.” “The five brothers, now much older and grown, lined up,” and prepared to march into the dark forest. The men stayed close to the path, not moving too fast; the enemy was close and they could all sense it. They decided two of the five would stand guard as the other three progressed deeper into the brush. Briar and Grove agreed to keep watch. As the three said goodbye, Grove gave Fen a box with which to remember him by, in case they were never reunited. Fen tucked it into his boot and promised to keep it safe.
Now Fen, Chase and Forest trudged on “into the dense woods.” “The path twisted like a snake,” from south to east. Out of nowhere, the enemy jumped out from behind the foliage and surrounded the three. In an effort to save his brothers, Chase brought out his rifle, which caused a long enough distraction for Fen and Forest to run for safety. The enemy “wrapped ropes and vines,” around Chase to contain him, while they pursued the escapees.
Fen and Forest ran to hide, but found “the eastern path led to a clearing amongst the trees.” The two stood quiet in the clearing, only the rippling sounds of a nearby pond could be heard. A shot rang out from an enemy’s rifle. “Forest fell hard to the east” and lay still. Another shot shook the canopy overhead, and “Fen toppled to the ground facing directly south.” The reminder of his brother, his treasured keepsake, was still “hidden in his boot.”
You may rest on a tree to enjoy your treasure or walk to a nearby bench. Please use caution the park is heavily used. Please make sure box is well hidden when you replace it.

If you continue on the path, all ways lead back to the parking lot.
