This Fantasy Island is not TV show from the 70's...it’s a place for biking enthusiasts – no pedestrians or hikers are allowed. It’s a single track course with 2 entrance and 2 exists, 6 loops, plenty of leaning curves, and hundreds of cacti throughout the 19 mile course.

As I mentioned there are 2 entrances to Fantasy Island – to get Fantasy Island from the North Entrance – take I-10 to the Valencia exit. Exit onto Valencia and travel East past the Pima Air & Space Museum to the Diamond Shamrock Gas Station. This is a good place to gather any last minutes snacks or water. The gas station is located at the north east corner of the intersection. Now go North on Kold Rd. and follow the road up to Irvington. At Irvington, turn right and go East on Irvington until you pass Harrison Rd. Just as you pass Harrison Rd. you will see an asphalt paved parking lot on the south side of the road. This is the parking lot you want to be in.

Once you have parked look to the southwest and find two wooden posts on the top of the burm/hill. This is the North entrance to Fantasy Island. You can ride the whole 19 miles and enjoy the sights – you’ll find the Christmas tree, boothill, and many more sights along the course. Just remember do not exit the course at the 9 mile mark or you will be on Valencia Rd. Keep peddling all the way back to the beginning of the course. Once you have reached the end of the course put your bike away, grab a snack & drink, and let’s now go letterboxing.

From the two wooden posts at the entrance, walk East to the first telephone pole on the south side of the road. Then continue East along that path until you find a gas pipe labeled #306. Continue East past a small Mesquite tree, and then just 10 more steps to the East along that same path. Stop, turn and face South. Look up to the top of the burm/hill. Ther you will see a small Palo Verde tree and to it’s right a small barrel cactus. The Fantasy Island letterbox is under the pile of rocks and natural debris between the tree and cactus.
