8/1/10 Road fixed and just fine now. Box still never found!

The Bull of the Woods Wilderness area has several trailheads and miles of trails to hike. It was originally explored for its minerals and mining potential, and indeed there are a few inactive, accessible mines in the area still, and old equipment left behind. But you've gotta hike to it. If you backpack in, Porcupine Mine is a water source about 4.5 miles from the Pansy Lake trailhead. Get down into the gorge of the mine where you can examine the old equipment and you'll also find trickling water.

Pansy Lake Basin is where you will find this letterbox. Trail 551 starts in the Bagby Hot Springs region. You will find the trailhead by traveling south on Hwy 224 from Estacada for 25.6 miles, (approx .5 mile past Ripplebrook Ranger Station), and turn right onto FS46. On 46 travel 3.5 miles, turn R on 63. Travel 5.7 miles and go R on 6340. On 6340 go 7.8 miles and the road will fork (6340 and 6341). Turn R onto 6341 and follow 3.6 to the trailhead and parking area.

I hid this box near the trailhead, because I'm guessing that no one is going to drive all this way for a drive-by box, and that they intend to backpack in, or maybe camp at Pansy Lake (only about a mile in). And, backpackers don't want to carry in unnecessary stuff, so you can get this box but leave your letterboxing gear in the car. Bring markers: dark green, light green, dark blue or purple, and brown.

Take a stroll up the trailhead, where 2 rocks will guide your path. Just beyond the left rock is a V. In the crook a wedge-shaped rock holds the box down. If you reach the Wilderness you've gone too far.

Please put the rock back on carefully, so you don't crack the box. A few peices of bark finish off the camoflage. This is probably my favorite carving so please re-hide well.
