A huge thank you to Sunshine for planting these for us.

As many of you know, we were one of the group of boxers who had boxes taken from us by person/persons unknown. Our little chihuahua Mona, who is a gentle soul, was at first very confused as to why someone would want to do such a mean thing. After reflecting upon this for several days and listening to Hez and Grumpy discussing the issue, Mona got really mad and in her little doggie fashion made it known that she thought we shouldn't give in to these spoilers of fun. We agreed and have not only re-placed the boxes taken, but have added a few more.

To you spoilers of innocent fun we say-TAKE THAT!

Defiant Mona Series

Gillette Castle State Park
River Rd.
East Haddam, CT

Park in the parking lot at the pond. Walk Southeast with the pond to your right. Pass the Do Not Enter Sign and continue on this trail. Go across the long foot bridge with the other, larger pond below you and on your right. Shortly after leaving the bridge, you will go around a curve and see a tunnel in the distance. This was part of William Gillette’s train track route that went throughout the castle grounds. After going through the tunnel, there will be a fork where this trail joins another one on the right. Bear left, which is really going straight. Count 47 steps from the fork and look uphill at 45 degrees and see an outcrop jutting upwards from the hillside. Poor confused and upset Mona is hiding there.

Continue on this trail. Shortly you will see a sign made from several boards directing you to go left and uphill to continue with the trail. When you get to the top, go left. Stop at the JC+ES 2000 Beech tree which is on the right side of the trail. Go North 15 steps to the back side of a white oak. Look in the ground, underneath some rocks for Mona gets mad.
Getting back on the trail, continue in the same direction. You will see the tunnel downhill on your left. The path has some curves. Soon there will be roots to go over. Count 46 steps past these roots, and at 300 degrees find the butt end of a downed tree near several rocks and a ledge. Look in the roots to find YOU CAN'T STOP US!

After finding the third box, you can continue on and return to your car on this trail. To make a longer hike, after finding Mona’s third box, turn around and going past the spot where you came up from the board sign, keep going on this trail to lengthen your time to Get Outside.
