Zube Park is home to Houston Area Live Steamers (HALS), an organization devoted to live steam modeling: from locomotives, to stationary engines, to tractors and boats, with a particular emphasis on model trains large enough to ride. On the third Saturday of each month, March through November, the members of HALS offer free rides to the public on their track. It's a great place to spend an afternoon with the family and add another stamp to your letterbox collection!

Directions:
The park may be reached from Houston by traveling west-northwest on Hwy 290 for 27 miles to Roberts Road and turn right. Go one mile, passing soccer fields, and the entrance to the train station is on the right. If the trains aren't running and the gate is closed, you can park by the playground & soccer fields and walk down the road to cross the creek, then slip through the gate to get to the gazebo. See map for more detail.

Clues:
Start at the gazebo at the west end of the R.R. tracks. Go south to the creek and turn left (east) toward the silver power lines. Follow the left bank of the creek past the small lake on your left until you are under the farthest power line. Continue along the creek bank for another 50 paces. You should now be even with the start of trees across the creek to your right. Turn left (north) and go 28 paces to a small opening in the trees on your side of the creek. Step inside the opening and look to the right. The camo letterbox is strapped to a tree with a bungee cord about 4 feet off the ground. Please be discreet since the area is visible from the soccer fields, and make sure the box is securely fastened to the back side of the tree when done.
