Site:
Butterfly Lake, a picturesque little lake full of trout, surrounded by rocky mountains, lush pines, aspens and green meadows.

Description:
Only an hour and a half away from Salt Lake City, the Uinta Mountains couldn’t feel further removed from the hustle and bustle, the drama and deadlines of daily life. They are among the highest in the state of Utah and are home to many wild animals. This is a place where the craggy mountains are reflected in small lakes, deer cross your path to hide in the thick stands of pines, and you can still see millions of stars after the sun goes down. Don’t forget to bring your camera!

Directions:
From Kamas, take Center St. or SR-150, otherwise known as Mirror Lake Highway going East. The box is 34 miles down this road. After about 10 minutes of driving you’ll see the fee station to your right. Pull over and pay $3.00 for a day pass, then continue along the highway. You’ll climb in altitude and pass many beautiful campgrounds and trails. You might also want to look for the “Grin and Bear It” box hidden near Provo Falls. Take time to stop and look at the viewpoints, and take a leisurely walk around Mirror Lake.

This box is located right after mile marker 34, 2 miles after Mirror Lake. You’ll see the sign for Butterfly Lake Campground on the left. Don't take that one. The very next turnoff to your left is Butterfly Lake. Park in the parking lot.

Clues:
To the West of the parking lot, on the opposite end from the bathrooms you’ll see the sign “Butterfly Lake.” Next to that sign begins a trail that winds leisurely around the lake. The box is about a 5 minute walk along that trail. Start walking along the trail, through the trees, then the little meadow to your left. If you look up to the left you’ll pass picnic table #3. From there, look ahead to the right, between the trail and the lake, and you'll see a bunch of trees divided into 3 groups. Between the 2nd and third groups is a small path that leads through the trees to the water’s edge. Go to the intersection of your trail and that small path and stop. Turn so that you’re standing with your back to the lake. Just to your right should be 2 very large fallen trees. If you pass those logs you've gone too far. Take 8 steps forward, away from the lake. You should be at about the middle of the closest log, in front of two large rocks. The box is hidden under the rock to the right, covered by smaller rocks. The rock on the left side is perfect to sit on while uncovering the box.

When you replace it, please make sure no one sees you, and cover it well so it won’t be accidentally exposed. Please email me to let me know the condition of the box, and what you thought of the hunt. I hope you enjoy the Uintas as much as I do!
