** Box has gone missing! ** Check back for updates

This is a great walk along a rocky beach. Be prepared - the walk is approximately 1.5 miles each way, and you will be walking on sand and rocky beach. Bring lots of water and wear sunscreen and comfortable shoes. You might want to wear bathing siuts and comfortable water shoes. We always pack a lunch and sit at the lighthouse to eat. Bring bags for the kids to collect shells along the way.

This is in Cedar Point Park/campground, which is a Suffolk County park. A Suffolk County Green Key is required and can be purchased at any Suffok County park. Follow this link for directions to the park and applicable fees.

You are starting in Cedar Point Park. Head towards the camp store. You will see the store on your left, but continue heading straight on that road. There is a path down to the beach at the end of that road. Once you near the water, follow the beach to the right. You will not be able to see the lighthouse from this point. Notice along the right the nesting areas are blocked off for the Piping Plover. Continue walking, looking for jingle shells and horseshoe crabs as you go. As you round a bend you will begin to see the lighthouse. If there is fencing up for the Piping Plover, there is still an entrance to the lighthouse. Just follow the ropes around. Head up the steps to the landing of the lighthouse and enjoy the view. Pick a shady spot to enjoy your lunch and empty the sand from your shoes. When you are ready, go back down the steps of the lighthouse. With the little fuel house at your back, head towards the large clump of bushes. When you get to the patch of bushes walk half way around to a sinlge bush on the other side. The box is in this bush. There is a brief history of the Cedar Island Lighthouse in the box.

Enjoy!
