This box is being planted in honor of Shepherd's sesquicentennial (150 years). Please remember your stamp and ink. This is only a 10 minute walk to the box)

Shepherd was establlished in 1857. Before that it was named Salt Creek. After a large fire, everyone gathered together to rebuild around the ann arbor rail lines along with many other buildings there owned by a man named I. N. Shepherd. Start at the Railroad tracks that cross wright ave. in town. Look towards the south to see the water tower. Drive to it and park in front of the girls JV field.

Start walking on the trail that leads to the base of the water tower. It begins with 2 bright yellow posts. Keep following the path heading towards the RR tracks. Continue to follow the path south passing a field's scoreboard.

Keep watching the power line poles on your right hand side. Once you pass pole number 142, look for a foot worn path to the west. Take that path over the tracks and across the road. PLEASE BE CAREFUL OF TRAINS AND TRAFFIC!

Find a sign that says "Coe Township Park" . Then look for the only tall willow tree. From the tree take 28 paces west to a little open spot into the woods. Head into the woods (south) 12 paces. Head back, east, 28 paces.

Look for a clump of 7 trees. You will know you are there because if you look to the north you will see that same willow tree just out of the woods. The fun is in the middle of those trees.

If you would like a longer walk, when you cross the tracks back to the path you can follow south and it will take you back into town. You can follow the side walk east past the schools and to you car at the water tower. This walk is about 2.5 miles
