Terrain: A bit tricky, a short uphill climb
Clues: Easy

Visit the beautiful Letchworth State Park to find this letterbox. Our family has a reunion here each fall and we enjoy letterboxing. The box is near the South end of Letchworth State Park. Follow the main park road the the Lower Falls parking area. Park in the lot near the Footbridge Nature Shop.

Follow signs toward the Lower Falls passing Footbridge Nature Shop on your left. Walk through picnic area and join the Lower Falls trail. DO NOT take the stairway (127 steps) to find the Leterbox. Follow trail #1 (look for blaze on tree). You will pass a giant white oak with a whorl. As you continue on, look for twin beech trees on the right hand side with a cantaloupe-size rock sticking out of the bottom, tangled in the base of trees. (Just before 5th blaze/trail marker) Turn right here and climb up the hill. Skitter up to the grassy area straight up hill and turn right. Look for a rock/concrete pile under a hemlock tree. If you stand facing this pile and look up to your right, you will see a partially uprooted/fallen tree. Continue climbing up the hill in the direction of the leaning tree. Cross over the little brook/run-off and head over to the area where there are many downed trees and branches. There is a single giant oak standing guard over this area. Fifteen paces down hill from the giant oak.... if you look carefully where a little animal might find shelter in a fallen tree, you will find the LETTERBOX.
