This box was planted at the Dive in and Plant a Box Mini Meet on July 28, 2007.
Shakamak hosted many Mid-States AAU Championship Swim Meets, drawing a huge attendance. A floating platform and a 5 and 10 meter diving platform (called the "16" and "32" by local swimmers preferring to measure the heights approximately in feet) was created for the meets and remained open and in use by the general swimming public until the 1990s when Shakamak lake was closed to swimming and a swimming pool was constructed. To recognize this history many of the attendees of the gathering created boxes related to a diving theme.
Clues:
After finding “The Winner Is…” box turn right on the gravel road. Pass where trail #3 heads off left and head up the stairs on the right at the beginning of trail #4. Continue down the trail pass a marker, cross a bridge, pass another marker, cross two more bridges, and pass another marker. At the bottom of the next set of stairs the trail heads off to the right. Look back at the stairs and under the last step on the left to find the box.
After stamping in, please make sure to secure the box lid and place the box back under the step. You don’t need to push it too far back but just far enough so it can’t be seen through the steps.
If you continue down trail #4 you’ll end up at the campground or you can return the way you came back to your car at the boat ramp.
