This box was confirmed missing, and probably will not be replaced.
Please bring your own ink pad, we no longer put ink pads in our boxes in the UP since we found out from someone else that bears are attracted to them.
Driving through Houghton, follow US Hwy 26 West (also know as Shelden Ave), past the lift bridge. Turn right on Houghton Canal Road, which is on the curve in the road. If you get to the traffic light, you've gone too far. Follow Houghton Canal for approximately 9.5 miles until it dead ends. Park at the boulders that are across the road. Park, and walk to the right side, there is a trail that leads back along the side of the road. Come to 3 boulders, 2 of which are in the path. Just past the boulders on the left, you'll see a multi-trunked birch tree. Covered by leaves is the box that you are seeking! Please recover well.
Enjoy the view! Just across the canal, you can see the lighthouse and breakers at McLain State Park. (There is also a box there!)
