This box is a part of the Parade of Books Letterbox Series. The clues lead from box to box. You should check the first box in the series, Lord of the Flies, for general trail information.

The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne is one of the classics that many of us have been required to read at some point in our education. Set in Puritan New England in the seventeenth century, it tells the story of Hester Prynne, who gives birth after committing adultery, refuses to name the father, and struggles to create a new life of repentance and dignity. While not one of my favorite books, I did enjoy the discussion it prompted in my American Literature class in highschool.

To find the Scarlet Letter, continue on the trail from Vorkosigan Arms. Cross Hwy DT and you will soon see the 4 mile marker. When you get to the small bridge, listen for roosters crowing at the nearby game farm. Cross the bridge and start counting yellow stripes in the middle of the trail. At the 16th yellow stripe, look to your left for a path into the trees. Follow the path 20 paces from the road until you’re standing directly in front of a split rock missing its right half. Turn to your right and go 4 paces. The Scarlet Letter is waiting under a pile of branches in between a large rock and the remains of a bush. Stamp up and rehide well! Head back to the main trail for the next box.
