Camp Pennsylvania Kids Letterbox

This letterbox is just outside the picturesque and historic village of Boiling Springs in Cumberland County. Settled in 1737, Boiling Springs is a village that surrounds the Children’s Lake, right on the Appalachian Trial. Be sure to bring some bread to feed the ducks. The Memorial Clock Tower, erected in 1956 and the Boiling Springs (Grist) Mill, on record as early as 1785, are two landmarks in the village. The mill is one of, if not the most photographed building in the village.

Boiling Springs was also a site for the underground railroad before the civil war, a tourist destination in the early 1900's, a stop along the Appalachian Trail. Now a location for small shops, art galleries, restaurants, recreation and relaxation. Boiling Springs is a fantastic community of individuals that are inspired to create that small town feel and share it with anyone who visits.

We are a group of cousins from all over the country who gather together every year at our great aunt and uncle’s home in Boiling Springs for one week without our parents. We have a fun time. We had so much fun letterboxing this year that we decided to hide our own. We hope you had fun trying to find it.

Directions to our letterbox
From I-81 north take the exit for York Rd.(exit 48) At light make a right onto York Rd., go to 1st light and make another right at the Rite Aid. Go to 1st stop sign and make a left onto Forge Rd. Go about 6 miles into Boiling Springs until you come to a stop sign. You will see the lake to your left. Go straight and follow along side of lake. When you reach the Boiling Springs Pool, turn right and follow this road through a village neighborhood until you get back to the main road. Turn left and drive about 1-2 miles to South Middleton Township Municipal Park on the left. Park in the parking area. Walk to the back of the parking lot. Take the paved path on your left. Pass 2 bluebird houses. Stop at the footbridge. Note the weight limit on the bridge. This is your special number. Cross the bridge and immediately turn right and follow the path along the Yellow Breeches Creek. Walk until you see a splintered tree stump 2 times the height in feet of your special number. Continue on the path as many steps as 3 times your special number. Look back at the splintered tree stump. Note its fallen top in front of you. Look behind it for your letterbox treasure.

From I-81 south take exit 49 (High St.), not sure what the name of the exit is. At bottom of ramp take a right (Rt. 641) Take 1st left. Drive about 1 mile to York Road. Make a left onto York Rd. and go under bridge for I-81.

From this point you'll be following the same directions from above from the Rite Aid.

You can also goto www.mapquest.com and just enter in "Boiling Springs Lake, PA. Zip:17007 This will get you to the lake.
