This letterbox is located in the beautiful Weiser State Forest. One of our favorite places to ride mountain bikes thanks to the “The Rattling Creek Single Trackers” bike club. The trails are great for hiking too. This letterbox is hidden in one of my favorite areas of the forest. It’s a great place for a lunch break. Please remember to pack out and leave only footprints in the sand.

Here are the clues:

Driving from Harrisburg head West on 22/322 towards Halifax. Exit onto 147 North. You will go up the mountain and come to a light, make a left onto 147 North. Just past the Sheetz market make a right onto Powells Valley Road toward Carsonville.

Follow for 8 miles until you reach the Village of Carsonville. Shortly after entering the village you will make a left at the "Carsonville Inn". Follow this road for 7.5 miles. You will go up and over the mountain.
Follow down until you reach a gravel road called Lykens and turn left. Drive for approx. 1 mile to the trail head of *Rattling Creek/Doc Smith, park just past sign on left.

Exit your vehicle and go to the trail head. on left. Follow trail head for .17 miles and turn left at the other Rattling Creek/ Doc Smith Trail marker. Head down the hill. You will come to a stone wall and cross one bridge. Right before you come to the next bridge turn left walk around a pine saplings and a quick right to the water edge. Stop and look 10 feet to your left.
What you seek is hidden in the right side of an old tree trunk. It’s covered with rocks.

Please re-hide well with lots of rocks to prevent it from floating away in a flood.
Sit down and relax as you listen to the water trickle over the smooth stones. I love this place. I hope you enjoy it too.
