***NEW CLUE 7/12/2010***

Limekiln Lake Boat Launch (by "Fisherman" of the Limekiln Loons) NEW CLUE 7/12/2010 as the old stump has rotted & fallen apart.

From the south, take Route 28 north past Old Forge & Eagle Bay about 10 miles, then just north of Inlet past the laundromat. Turn at the next right onto the Limekiln Road... the IVES(Inlet Volunteer Emergency Services) facility is on the corner.

From the north, take Route 28 south about 10 miles from Raquette Lake, turning left onto the Limekiln Road just past the Inlet Golf Club... the IVES(Inlet Volunteer Emergency Services) facility is on the corner.

Proceed up the hill & over the summit, <2 miles total, & turn right onto Campsite Road just past the former Marie's Pie Shop/Limekiln Chalet A-Frame building in the clearing on the left.

This road leads in to the Limekiln Lake State Campground. It's a great place to spend the day(Awesome Beach - rarely crowded) if you care to pay the day use fee at the gate(Memorial Day to Labor Day), but if not, just park out side the gatehouse & walk, or ride bikes in, no charge - it's only about .3 mile past the gatehouse. From Labor Day to Memorial Day the gatehouse is closed & unmanned, the road is open for road traffic to the boat launch .

Arriving at the boat launch, look down the launch towards the lake. To the left of the launch is a parking area with about twelve spaces facing into the woods. Starting at the far end, stand at the second space and look into the woods toward and into the lake. There is one tree that is obviously larger than the rest... walk to it. You will know it's the right one when you get close as it has two smaller trunks coming out of it near the bottom. At the base of the fallen tree on the lake side, under rocks, branches, & twigs, you will find what you seek.
