NOTE: This box has been posted as missing. Please check back at a later date to see if it's been replaced. 8/2008
This box was planted in honor of the Independence Day Festival held in the little town of Slater, Iowa. For such a modest town, they sure draw a big crowd and have lots of fun with their community festival. Every other year (on even numbered years), the festival moves to Sheldahl, a neighboring town.
Bring your own ink.
Level of terrain difficulty: easy
Time required after parking: 5-10 minutes.
Clues:
Slater is a very small town. Find the park in the center of the village. Look for the log cabin. Park anywhere.
• Starting at the antique, earthen structure, head west to the open air pavilion. This is where concerts and other types of entertainment take place throughout the Slater Festival.
• Turning south, go to the decorative structure that also provides shelter. During the festival they serve homemade icecream here.
• Staying there, take a break and sit down facing the horseshoe pits. This is the direction you want to head.
• Travel outside but stay nearby. Look for the sprawling bush at the southeast corner of your decorative hut. Therein lies the box!
