Sticking close to Lake Michigan, we decided to hide this letterbox at Carthage College on Sheridan Road (Hwy 32) in Kenosha. As a family of baseball fans we could not pass up this opportunity! This is a letterbox that children should have adult supervision as it is close to the river.
First, enter the parking lot that is just north of the Tarble Athletic Center. Continue through the parking lot until you see a sign for “Library Service Drive – Faculty Day Parking”. Park and begin here!
To the north you will see a red stone path. Follow that path until you get to a red steel bridge that crosses the water. As you look across the bridge you will be able to see the Carthage baseball field. Obviously, be respectful of any activity taking place at the field! Go ahead and cross the bridge, but stop as soon as you get to the other side. Now you want to stay as close to the river as possible.
To continue, you will need a little baseball knowledge. Line yourself up in a straight line with bases that Ryan Braun and Johnny Estrada call home for the Milwaukee Brewers. (Mike Schmidt and Yogi Berra for you old-time baseball fans!) Remember, however, to stay close to the river! Face to the left and head south 11 adult steps. There should be a tree on your left. Continue south for 11 more steps and you should find a tree on your right. You’re almost there!
Now continue south for 5 more steps and turn left. There should be a fallen tree that a lightning storm has marked for you. There is a hidden path that leads to the river. Follow that short path down to the river and turn left. There is a tree ahead of you that has a double trunk. Take about 4 steps and you will find the letterbox hidden in a hole on the backside of the trunk of that tree!
Hopefully you have success!
We love going to baseball games. Check out a baseball game at Carthage whenever you can. Their baseball team is awesome in the spring, and many local summer teams play there as well. Enjoy your day, stamp our book please, and replace the letterbox as you found it. If it is missing or damaged, please contact Randy at 262.884.8814. We also have a letterbox hidden in Racine. Good luck!
