This letterbox is located in the beautiful Uncompahgre National Forest. The site is somewhat secluded and will take about 1 1/2 hours to get in and out of site with driving and hiking time. It is child and dog friendly (better for the Kindergarten and up crowd). The road is unpaved gravel but you will not need four wheel drive to get there. This is the first of many (we hope!) boxes to be placed by our family.

Head west through Norwood on highway 145. As the road makes the big curve right, turn left on Aspen St/42ZS rd. Drive about 1 mile to top and turn right on Y43 Rd. In less than 1/2 mile make a left onto 41.5Y Rd. Drive 1.7 miles and turn right into Uncompahgre National Forest over the cattle gaurd. You will continue driving on this road for about 15-20 minutes (8.5 miles) to the very top. Park where the road ends and plan to hike for about 15 minutes.

Walk on the closed dirt road past the pile of deadwood until you reach the barbed wire fence. Follow the fenceline to the right, staying on the two track as it curves away from fence. You are looking for the old log cabin up ahead. Behind the cabin, down the hillside is a trail through the trees to the left. Follow this trail to the spring and the big wood water barrel. You are looking for 3 big boulders nestled in the baby aspen trees. Near a little Gambel Oak tree, is the lichen covered boulder you want. Look under the rock cairn to find the letter box. There is a first finders prize in the bag to the lucky one who gets there!
