Clues

One of my friends told me about some great natural scenery at this park. So, my adventure begins.

Past the North Campground, enjoying the view of Lake Minnawanna, I was headed for trail marker 2 in the South Campground.

Finding the trail I passed two brown buildings. Hmmm... what could those be for? Continuing on I noticed a log pile to the left. I wonder if anyone lives there. They must be napping. As I walked on I passed marker 13. I was enjoying the songs of my feathered friends, as the trail got steeper. At the sign, I decided to head toward trail marker 4. I decided to take the scenic trail because it just seemed better.

My friend was definitley right about the scenery, beautiful! Oh, look at that cute little pine tree right in the middle of the trail! Continuing onward, I could smell the wildflowers and the tall grasses waved in the warm breeze. The trail curved around and I stopped to admire a lonesome apple tree. I bet it’s blossoms smell great in Spring. I rested on top of the hill to enjoy the scenery from all angles.

Farther down the trail, I just had to stop and admire the neat rows of Jack Pine trees. That fence post might have been an old gate. When I came to the scenic trail sign, I stayed to the trail on the left.

After walking awhile, I saw a very huge boulder. It was cool so I stopped for a rest. The scenery was so beautiful, that I just couldn’t leave. So, I began to look for a place to camp. Standing next to the boulder with my back to the main trail, I saw a big tree, but that wasn’t the place for me. Next to the tree were some rocks that looked like it could have once been a wall or barrier. Look out! Barbed wire! This must have been old pastureland.

About fifty paces from the huge boulder, following the direction of the rock barrier, I saw another large boulder on the right. Walking around to the front of it, it seemed strange to me, but the flat face would make a great wind block, and the trench-like crevice from the top to the bottom of the boulder would be easy to spot after I was done hunting for treats. If you would like to meet your forest friend, lift the small rock, and clear away my bed of leaves.

P.S. Please don’t forget to tuck me in tight with leaves, and put my rock on top so that my covers don’t blow away. Thanks for visiting! It was nice meeting you!

SHORTCUT back to beginning of trail 2 (this will cut off more than ½ the hiking time) Go back the way you came, but at the scenic trail sign go left. When you reach trail marker 3 go left again. That will lead you back to trail marker 2 where you began.

Thanks to my best freind who helped me place this letterbox!

WARNING AREAS OF PARK ARE OPEN TO HUNTING IN SEASON.

Please make sure that all bags are sealed, the box is closed tightly, and both rocks are replaced. There has been problems with the box getting wet inside and animals digging it up.
