We were just informed last week this box has gone missing (so sad). We will replace it as soon as we can. 06/29/72

It opened as the Northern Michigan Asylum in 1885, today it is known as the Grand Traverse Commons which consists of The Village, Rolling Centuries and The Grand Traverse Pavillions. Throughout a century this psychiatric hospital lived through four wars, disease epidemics, several name changes and many different theories of how to treat the mentally ill. Over the years, therapy ranged from sedating patients with opium and morphine, to farming and exposing patients to beautiful grounds, to electro-shock therapy, fever inducing and lobotomies. The hospital had seen over 50,000 patients durings its active existence.

At one point in time the grounds contained elaborate sitting rooms, beautiful fountains, fields of flowers, grazing cattle and a lake. Though much of the original charm is lost back in time, extensive efforts have been made to save and renovate the grounds. Definitely worth a visit and stroll.

CLUES:
Admire building 50, long and grand in it's day.
Behind colors entertwine, guiding people every way.

Silver to Brown, Brown to Red, until the paved road has gone dead.
Park your car in the lot, stroll to the south you'll find the spot.

Traverse Colantha Walker in '32 did die.
Read her stone, a champion you'll know why.

Turn around a tall, shady tree towers over you.
Seek water, in an emergency this will do!

Enjoy!
