I have placed three letterboxes at Castroville Regional Park.

There are signs in the area indicating rattlesnakes are near the trails. We brought my young son along but he was on my shoulders for most of the hike. This can be a kid friendly hike if the kids are a bit older and have environmental awareness. Long pants and closed toe shoes are strongly recommended. You may also want to bring some gloves to reach for the boxes.

Aside from the hiking trails, there is a playground, a swimming pool, a camping area, and places to picnic. It looks like a great place to spend the afternoon. While you do not need money to hike you may need it for the other activities.

The hike is about .5 miles round trip but it is a pretty steep climb so be prepared before you head out.

To find the boxes:

Park you car in the "Pool Parking" lot near the hiking/nature trail head.

Upon entering the trail you will see a directional sign pointing to the different trails. Follow the "Cross Hill Trail."

LITTLE GUY BOX 1: MISSING

12 March 08 just got word number 1 is not in place but 2 and 3 are in good shape.

You will stay on the path until you come to the first red bench donated by the Schiners. Just past the bench there are four logs on the ground. Go to the fourth log (a double log) and look underneath to find the box.

LITTLE GUY BOX 2:
Continue on the path until you come to a second red bench. This one was donated by the Sharp Family. You will go behind the bench and there will be a tree with several small trunks, look in the middle of the trunks under rocks to find this box.

LITTLE GUY BOX 3:
Continue on the path until you reach "The Cross on Mount Gentilz." Near the sign is an electrical box and metal tube to encase the wires. Follow the tube just into the brush. Look under the brush to see a pile of rocks. Under the rocks is the box.

Have fun, take safe precautions, and let me know the status of the box when you find it.
