The story of two families desire to restart the Civil War is known as "Bolivar Fight". Some say this fight began at a local watering hole located in the middle of Bolivar. Others say it may have started in the neighboring town of Charles Town. Either way the struggle between the Brook and Tracy family is legendary.

The Brook family were an upstanding well-mannered family from the middle class and represented the modern day Union Forces. The Tracy family was something well short of the Brooks, but desired the same respect from the town folk that the Brooks were given. The Tracy's were "Southern".

One rainy night the tension between two members of the opposite families erupted over cold beverages down at that "pub" in the middle of town. Both families began a fight that would last decades. Their own little civil war. They ran from the pub along the streets of Bolivar picking up their family members and fighting all the way. I can not speak of what happened that evening or for the remainder of the fight for that matter, but you can find one Tracy Girl's form in a tree's skirt in a nearby battlefield. There are other members and letterboxes from each of the families located in battlefields all along the Shenandoah Valley. To find this one and the skirted tree. . . .

From RT. 340 make your way onto W. Washington Street which you will find across from the entrance to Harpers Ferry Park. Make a left onto a road named for the poet who spoke, "If you done it, it ain't bragging". Drive along this road to an obvious parking spot for those interested in the civil war history of this area. Park. Begin this trip on foot by donating to the cause be sure to begin by keeping the first cannon to your right. Along the way you will find Casualties of this war, stay the course which is the Union Battle Line. At the Fortification get off of the main path before it begins to loop back around, stay right and straight along the tree line. Follow the footpath keeping cannons and benches to your left. Stay on the footpath soon you will see a leaning tree on your left. (This is the same path that the two families battled each other from and ran down and away from one another.) Some say the entire Tracy family ran smack into the tree causing it to push over and grow in this unusual way. Continue past the tree and stand facing the Supply Line, to the left and approx. 40 and 45 paces from the Supply Line you will see a tree. In the summer time this tree will have a skirt of foliage (One of the Tracy Girls). In the base of the tree you will find the first "BOLIVAR FIGHT". The Brook family took advantage of the Tracy family's careless ways this time. They attacked soon after the family ran into the tree that now grows unusually. Please take care of this box and put it back in the base of the tree when you are done. Be careful not to open the box in the presence of one of the Brook or Tracy family members. This is the first in a series. Look for new ones monthly. Have fun.
