Texans Love NH

Difficulty: Easy
Distance: Less than 100 yards
Alive and well: Replaced log June 18, 2010
You will need to bring ink.

I can’t speak for all Texans, but we LOVE New Hampshire. I spent many holidays in Sanbornton when I was young. Now, whenever I get the chance, I drive to the First Baptist Church of Sanbornton to take pictures. The church was established in 1791. It’s lovely anytime of year, but especially in the fall and winter. This is where you will find the “Texans Love NH” letterbox. The church is active, please do not look for the letterbox during services or other church activities.

Directions:

From I-93 take exit #22. At the end of the ramp, turn north on Rte 127, toward Sanbornton. The first left, after the I-93 N entrance ramp will be the driveway to the church. You will see the sign for the church at the top of the hill to your left before you get to the driveway.

To the letterbox:

Walk up the steps to the gazebo and straight across to the railing. You will be facing the trees behind the church. Looking at the trees, there is one large “V” birch tree that is in front of the tree line. Look to the right of this tree to the tree line, count over 5 trees. Next to this tree is a large granite slab. Walk to it. Look right, you will see more granite slabs in the tree line. Walk to the 4th (the first 3 are close together, the 4th is approx. 10 feet from the 3rd ). Face the last slab, turn right, in the woods there is a colossal leaning stump about 22 paces away. Go to the far side of it. Turn so you are facing the gazebo. Look to your left. Spy the largest tree which is surrounded by large jagged rocks. It is about 20 paces and sits at the top of a slight hill. The letterbox is hidden in the smallest rocks. (from this tree you should be able to see the gazebo, the front walk of the church, and the driveway that you came up)

Please re-hide well.
