This letterbox is meant to get you to explore Downtown Eagle River.
There are restrooms at the park and this hike could easily be done by small children or people who are not avid hikers. It is wheelchair accessible also except for the box at the end.
We placed The Lightning box on one end of town and The Butterfly Queen on the other end of town.
You may choose to either find them separately and enjoy the downtown with it's many quaint shops or drive between them. We recommend stopping at Soda Pops for a nice lunch or dinner or ice cream.
As well as browsing the stores and candy shops along the way.
To find The Lightning box go to the Riverview Park on the end of town and go to the bandshell.
Follow the paved path toward the river. Take the trail bearing 30.
You will come to a T take a compass reading of 320 and continue under the arch (another great picture spot). Turn right after going under the arch. Follow the path down to the water.
With the sign in memory of Scott Elko to your back turn R and go under the bridge.
Go to the end of the walkway and look for a large tree at 100 degrees. Walk over the fallen tree limb and up the hill and you will find Lightning buried under bark at the base of the large tree.
Stamp up and return to its location and please update us on its condition as we do not live in the area.
You may continue on through the downtown to find The Butterfly Queen or drive to The Trees of Tomorrow to find it.
Thanks and Happy Letterboxing.
