Johann Sebastian Bach

Born March 21, 1685 in Eisenach, Germany
Died July 28, 1750 in Germany

Johann Sebastian Bach was born into a musical family. Almost all his male relatives were musicians, 76 in all with 53 of them named Johann. As a child he was a very good singer and learned to play the harpsichord, organ, violin and viola. He was orphaned at 10 and went to a choir school. Bach’s first job was as a violinist and soon after he became an organist in a church. He received 4 weeks off to go hear a famous Danish organist. Bach had to walk 200 miles to hear him play. He was 3 months late returning to work. The church authorities were angry so he went to work for the Duke Wilhelm Ernst. He worked there for 10 years and when he asked to leave, the Duke threw him in jail for a month. While in jail, he composed 46 chorale preludes.

Bach was married twice, first to his cousin Maria Barbara Bach, and after she died, to a court soprano Anna Magdalena Wilcke. Bach had 20 children but only 10 survived to adulthood. Four of his children also became famous composers.

Bach was one of the best organists that ever lived. He could take almost any tune and make up new music based on it, the same as jazz musicians do today. He said about his playing, “There is nothing remarkable about it. All you have to do is hit the right key at the right time and the instrument plays itself.” Bach produced 1200 compositions but he wasn’t appreciated as a composer until 100 years after his death.

Drive to the third parking lot. You’ll pass over two speed bumps, in case you don’t want to count parking lots. Once parked, turn left and walk along the road until you see a bridge in front of you and left of the road. Walk across the bridge.
Keep following this paved path until you come to a three pronged fork. Take the gravel path closest to your heart. Let the forest’s magic lead you into a world of your own. At least for a little while. Once you reach the opening, push onward and ignore the other two paths on either side of you.
Eventually, the birthplace of tiny fish will come into view on your right. Walk along this for a good while. You will arrive at another split. Hopefully, you’ll be drawn closest to the water. Pass the tree in mourning on the right. AGo to the path guarded by an extremely spindly soldier. Past the soldier, you'll see a diminished creek. Parallel to the creek on the right, there is a path. Head into the woods on this path. The treasure you seek resides in a gap in the essence gatherers of the mighty king in front of you.

Once you’ve completed your adventure, you may further meander around the land or turn away from the hill and keep right at every turn until you come to a gravel pathway that will lead you back to your humble vehicle.
