June 14th, 2007 was the first day of Camp Verano, a backyard camp put together by Robin & Marissa for our 4 children. We've been doing this camp for 7 years complete with camp t-shirts, crafts, field trips, & a camp song. Last year we hid our first letterbox at the Frank Buck Zoo in Gainesville, Texas. This year, we're hidding 2 boxes - one at Bowling Green Park (see "Support Our Troops" box) & this one at Quakertown Park, formerly known as Civic Center Park. In case you don't know, "verano" means summer in Spanish.

Quakertown Park is located north of the historic Denton Courthouse on the Square. The Civic Center is on the corner of Bell Ave. & McKinney St. Due West of the Civic Center is a lovely small garden complete with a dry creek bed. Take the walkway down from the parking lot toward the dry creek bed. The box is hidden on the north side of the north end of this dry creek bed under some of the smaller oval rocks. If you stand facing the large grate at the north end of the dry creek bed, you'll see a circle of very large rectangular rocks with smaller oval rocks around the inside. If the circle of rocks is a clock face, the box is hidden at about 11:00. Please watch for mugglers & rewrap/rehide carefully. It may be a dry creek bed, but Denton gets our fair share of rain & we don't want the box to rust out & ruin the stamps.
