Lewis Creek Park
5808 Lakemont Blvd SE, Bellevue
Directions: From I-90, take the Lakemont Blvd. SE exit (exit 13), toward SE Newport Way. Turn right onto West Lake Sammamish Pkwy SE/Lakemont Blvd SE. Continue to follow Lakemont Blvd SE. End at 5702 Lakemont Blvd SE.

From the northeast end of the parking lot (the side away from the visitor center), take the stairs down to a paved trail past the basketball court. Head left (north) a short distance until you come to a gravel trail and sign that says "wetland loop." Follow this over a wooden bridge. Just past the bridge is an unsigned bark chip trail. This is the trail you want.

Box No. 1:
When the trail forks, take the right trail. Pass one, two, three upturned trees with exposed roots. At the third root system, which will be to your left, two jagged sentinels stand guard. Across the trail on the right side, find a gap between two sawn-off trees, marked by bark dust. Reach under the larger tree to your right, under a piece of bark.

Box No. 2:
There is no way to make this a loop, so head back to the fork and this time take the left one. Follow the trail a way; it will go down hill. Just before you get to a small wooden bridge, look to the right to find a two-prong maple tree. Around the left in a hole in the back under leaves and bark is No. 2.

Box. No. 3
Continue on the same trail, over the bridge and past a big multitrunked tree on the left, until you find a mossy grove with overhanging branches that looks like a great gnome home. There are several stumps but the one you want is slightly jutting out into the trail. A fern and another small plant grow out of the top. Around the back, between this stump and a larger one behind in, you'll find the small box in a rotted out hole under leaves.
The trail goes just a short way more before hitting a deadend. Return the way you came. There are several other trails in the park, including a 1/2-mile wetlands trail with a boardwalk section.
