NOTE> This box is missing, Michel LaBranche July 27, 2007.

Tennessee has a proud county music history. This Country Music Instrument series remembers some of these old timey musical instruments, and in this box you will find one of them.

From I-75 in Tennessee, take exit 122 at Norris and turn east on Highway 61. You will pass by the Museum of Appalachia which has recently become an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution. Yes, its that good, and it has an excellent musical instrument collection making Norris an appropriate place to hide boxes in this series.

Turn north on US Hwy. 441 and drive several miles. You will pass the Island Home Baptist Church and the Lenoir Museum. Soon you will see a blue sign with arrows pointing left to a road that will take you below Norris Dam to the "Powerhouse and Maintenance Base".

You can drive to within about 100 yards of the dam and park. There are some interesting artifacts here, and maybe you can have a friend take your picture waving "Hi!". Check out the clear, greenish Clinch River below. These are some of the best trout fishing waters in Tennessee. Norris Dam was started in October 1933, and was completed in March 1936. It is 1,860 feet long, 265 feet high, and 208 feet thick at the base. Inside the powerhouse are two 50,000 kilowatt generators.

OK... backtrack a little bit and park in a paved lot behind a row of ratty looking white pines. Go to the canoe access, and, for a smile, dip your tootsies in the river - especially if its a hot day.
Look for the ornithologists delight - a natural workshop where you will be schooled in the finer points of the pursuit. With due diligence, you will work to ascend to a higher plane in the sport of letterboxing. Hope and persevere!

To continue your quest, you must stop and pay homage to Edgepath! By subtracting 22 from the size of the calyx core, you will know what steps to take next and can continue in your journey to perfection!

There is a single porta potty here, but no potable water.

Be sure to look for he other Country Music Instrument boxes in Norris. Collect them all!

Thanks to Lighting the Way, New Hampshire, for carving this awesome stamp and making the log.
