STONY CREEK LETTERBOXING CLUES
WEST BRANCH PARK

ALL BOXES HAVE BEEN UPDATED ON 6-11-10

All clues are within one park at Stony Creek. There is a daily entrance fee if you don’t have an annual metro park sticker. When entering the park follow the road to the left until you get to West Branch park which will be on your left. The park has 6 different parking lots within one park. The letter indicates which parking lot you should begin at. These boxes are presented to you by Girl Scout Troop #988. We had a ball doing them!!! If any are missing please let us know and we will fix them immediately.
Long pants are recommended and bug spray is essential (During spring and summer months).

NATURE'S TUNNEL
(Letterbox B)

Your excursion begins at a place that you can get drinking water. Once your thirst is quenched, head towards a place where a popular sport is played (Hint-The Palace). Follow the trail beyond the last post. Follow the trail until you see the river then turn right. Stop at the next fork in the road and look around at Stony Creek's beauty. Keep walking approximately 33 paces, look to your left and you will see the remains of a huge old tree. Follow this small path to your prize. Look at the base of the arch and dig under some leaves to claim your victory. Take your letterbox back up the hill to do your stamping.
When finished, replace contents and return the box exactly as you found it, for the next group.

SLUMBERING LUMBER
( Letterbox C-1)

At the end of parking lot "C" you will see a roundabout. This journey begins in the middle. Stand upon the sewer cap. At first glance everything looks like trees. But one of them has wires attached and a transformer at the top. Head in that direction. Once at the pole continue on this trail. There are two evergreen trees that are approximately two feet off of the trail. At the second evergreen tree turn right and follow this new trail.

As you follow this trail you will pass a log with lumber attached. Cross the balance beam bridge - if you dare! Keep following the path up the hill. Up, up you go until you reach the top. Make a right and head towards #27 and take a break. The end is near. While sitting on the bench, you are not the only one resting. Turn around a you'll see a path. Take this path aprox. 10 paces and you'll see a dead evergreen slumbering on its friends. Your box will be here.
When finished, replace contents and return the box exactly as you found it.

PATTY'S TRAIL
( Letterbox C-2 )

Standing at the pavilion head towards the stop sign facing you. With your back to the sign, look around for a bench facing your direction. Head towards the bench and have a seat with Patricia. As you are sitting, look for a narrow trail into the woods. Follow this trail. Go through the clearing and keep following the trail. When you get to the end, make a right. Follow this path until you pass the wooden gate. Turn around and take 5 paces back, and look to the right. Your box is nestled between and mother tree and her offspring.

When finished, replace contents and return the box exactly as you found it, for the next group.

HOLLOW HILL
( Letterbox F )

From parking lot look for trail map. Go there. Can you figure out where you are at? Follow the bike trail until you reach a small trail on your right, just past the power line. Carefully walk over the mound of downed branches and trees. Follow this trail and enjoy the beautiful path of golden leaves (in the fall). Go up a little and down a ways. Follow the electrical line until you reach a fork in the road. You will see a picnic area on your right. Do not go in that direction. Take the steep downhill path carefully. Stand on the log and face the path you just traveled. From this vantage point you will see a hollowed dead tree about nine feet tall. You letterbox is housed here.
When finished, replace contents and return the box exactly as you found it, for the next group.

RIVERWALK
(Letterbox A)

Begin in the middle of the turnaround. Stand on sewer cap facing volleyball net. Raise your arms to form a "T". Your left arm points the way. Take this trail until you are offered a choice. Turn to your left. Take the very (very) small trail for about 13 paces. Your treaure will be on your left between the conjoined twin trees.

When finished, replace contents and return the box exactly as you found it, for the next group.
