These letterboxes depict the various mascots or symbols which represent the schools of the conference. These pouches and jars will be located at 2 parks (including Turkey Mountain in SW Tulsa, TULSA COUNTY, and Rogers Conservation Education Reserve in Claremore, Rogers County) in the Tulsa area and will be placed May 14th thru May 16th.
Difficulty: Moderate effort and some elevation changes Please bring your stamp, a stamp pad, compass, pen and an old rag to wipe off the box/your hands. NOTE; When done stamping in to each pouch/box, please place the log book in a baggie and seal it well and then place that baggie and the stamp in the other baggie and seal it well. Hopefully this will prevent the log from getting wet and ruining the stamping fun for future boxers. The one school left out (Texas Tech) will be placed on my return trip in the fall/winter. And please be advised that all of these boxes are placed in wooded areas that harbor insects, animals, wet areas and the normal hazards found in the woods. Please wear appropriate clothing, carry water and wear insect repellant as necessary.

CLUES: These boxes are located in the Rogers Conservation Education Reserve located behind the Rogers University campus just N.W. of downtown Claremore, Ok. Directions: Take Rt 66 into downtown Claremore and find Will Rogers Blvd...and go N.W. on this road to the University main entrance. Enter the University and bear right at the Y and you are on University Drive. Stay on University Drive passing the Library and dorm on the left and take the gravel turn off to the right going to Aqua Lab., at Colonel Horn Drive. Pass the building on the right and go to the gate. Park on the right just before gate. Walk to the trail sign just beyond the gate and then on down to the asphalt path and go left.
BOX 1: After crossing the wooden bridge go 47 steps as the path turns right and left and on your right will be a large scraggly evergreen tree. Just past this tree several steps and on the left will be a clearing and at the rear is a blue bird box. Behind this bird house and a little left is a small grouping of evergreen trees. The TIGER letterpouch is hanging behind the largest evergreen in this grouping. First make sure you are unobserved and then retrieve the pouch by untwisting the wire around the limb. Do your stamping and unobserved return the pouch to its hanging position please. Back to the trail as you were going.

BOX 2: not far ahead is an intersection of trails and you will go right toward the wet lands. From the intersection go 28 steps and the path bends hard right. Stop and look 2308 ahead into the opening in the trees. Go 12 steps this way to the tree with a mass of vines growing near its base on the right. The CYCLONES are in the mass of vines. Please replace as found when done stamping in. Were you observed while retrieving and replacing? Please return to the trail and go as you were, around the sharp bend and down.

BOX 3: Before long you will encounter a nice bridge heading to the right. You will not go the way of the bridge but stay straight and shortly you will see on your right an earthen dike between the ponds and on the dike are bird houses. At this dike continue as you were, on the path, 16 more steps, stop and look left for a large tree that forks about 2 feet above ground. This tree is about 12 steps from the trail and the LONG HORNS are on the right hand side of the base under dead limbs. After stamping in head back to the trail and back for that last wooden bridge you saw and cross the pond. As my sister and I crossed the pond we saw small nets and writing tablets every 10 feet of so along with small buckets for collecting items that had been netted. We assumed this was in preparation for a class of students to come and net tadpoles and other water life for study.

BOX 4: Continue northerly on this path crossing the blacktop road and continue ahead on the dirt path. Shortly you will intersect the asphalt path and to the right is a wooden bridge. Go left instead, 44 steps from where you hit the asphalt and stop. Look right about 7-8 steps off the trail for a large tree and go to it. At the rear of the base of this tree, under a flat rock, find the BAYLOR BEAR letterbox.

BOX 5. Go back to the trail and go as you were 83 steps to a bird house on the right. Go up close to the blue bird box and stop. Look 290* for the large lone tree and go 15 steps to it. Find the Kansas State WILDCAT under rocks at the base of this tree......unobserved, of course.

This completes my series of Big Twelve Conference Mascots at this park but there are several other boxes, placed by others, at this same Reserve so try them out too. And when you get back home and have the time, please contact me and let me know how you enjoyed your outing and the condition of the boxes. I do enjoy getting feedback on the hunt. Cordially, Glenn/Safari Man
