NOTE: This letterbox has a new stamp and new location as of 9/27/2004
See directions for Anniversary/Western Divide letterbox. Note: This is a 3 season box. Winter brings snowy/ice conditions and road closures. Once there, the trail of the giants is an easy walk with restrooms across the road and picnic facilities, dogs OK on leashes. The drive is about an hour from Kernville but very scenic.
From Kernville head north along the Kern River crossing Johnsondale Bridge. At 24 1/2 miles keep left toward Ponderosa & California Hot Springs. You will eventually come to a stop sign, take a right turn toward Ponderosa and Camp Nelson. You are now on the Western Divide Highway. Look for the sign, "Trail of the 100 Giants" and continue past this area. Look for a sign"Long Meadow Campground" at the turn for road 22So8. Do not turn here ,but continue for approximately 100 yards to the first turn out on your right. Park and look for a faint trail going over the berm near a rock cairn. Walk down 32 steps at 10 degrees to a giant redwood. Look inside the burned area on the tree on the left for a small letterbox.
Don't forget to return to the Trail of 100 Giants, as this trail winds through the giant redwoods.
