Removed temporarily. Husband wanted his ammo box back and I want to turn it into a geocache/letterbox hybrid. Please check back later!

From Interstate 81 North or South:
Salem Exit 137-turn right and go to the stoplight. Turn right on Main Street. Go to the 3rd stoplight and turn left on Diuguids Lane. Cross the railroad tracks and bridge. The Green Hill Park entrance is on the right. After entering the park, follow the road to the right, parallel to the river. Go past the soccer complex and play area. Continue on the road to the gravel lot at the end, near a picnic shelter and softball field.

The path to the letterbox starts behind the horseshoe pit. Follow it up the hill and go left up the wooden steps. Follow this path to another set of wooden steps and cross 3 fallen trees. Continue on past a small pine tree growing in the middle of the path. Keep walking until the path forms a T. Go left. Follow this path past a twisty tree on the right and eventually a tall tree stump on the right. Keep walking, but keep your eyes open for a tree with a bear house at the base. After visiting with the bears, continue on the path until it starts to go steeply downhill. As the path slopes down, you will see a dead twisty tree with a crooked hat. Go to this tree and turn around facing back uphill. Look slightly to your right to find the heart of a tree. The letterbox is located in the base of that tree.

****BEWARE: BEES REPORTED 10/9/09 IN DEAD TWISTY TREE****

Green Hill is a nice park with picnic shelters, play area, and river access. The path to the letterbox is somewhat steep, so be prepared. Otherwise it is not a hard hike, with well-traveled paths.
